History Project Update
Workshops
continue to train interviewers
The Oral History Training Workshop is open to all volunteers
interested in conducting oral history interviews with local veterans
and/or civilian supporters. No experience necessary, only
a willingness to learn. To date, over 30 individuals have
completed the workshop and are now equipped to facilitate the
interview process. Future workshop dates will be posted on our
Events site so check back regularly
for updated information. Please
call or e-mail the Center
to pre-register for each session - we can always use additional
trained volunteers!
Project
Background:
Trustee
and Historian Dr. Richlyn Goddard has successfully led the effort
to establish the Atlantic Heritage Center as a local site for
the Veterans History Project. The initiative, sponsored by the
Library of
Congress, relies on volunteers to collect and preserve stories
of wartime service. Stories can be told through personal narratives,
correspondence, and visual materials (photos, scrapbooks).
The
United States Congress created the Veterans History Project in
2000 and the primary focus is on first-hand accounts of U.S. Veterans
from the following 20th Century wars:
World War I (1914-1920)
World War II (1939-1946)
Korean War (1950-1955)
Vietnam War (1961-1975)
Persian Gulf War (1990-1995)
Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present)
In addition, those U.S. citizen civilians who were actively involved
in supporting war efforts (such as war industry workers, USO workers,
flight instructors, medical volunteers, etc.) are also invited
to share their valuable stories.
Help
Restore Arts and History Funding in New Jersey!!
There's
an important step that you can take to help the campaign to restore
funding to the New Jersey Historical Commission and the New Jersey
State Council on the Arts. Please visit the Art
Pride website - Action Alert section where you can enter your
zip code to automatically send a joint Arts / History funding
e-mail not only to district legislators but also to the Governor
and other key leaders. It's one of the easiest ways to get
the message directly to Trenton and help ensure that grants and
other funding resources continue to be available to organizations
like the Atlantic Heritage Center. Thank you.
