Images of America: Northfield, New Jersey
Contributors: Northfield Cultural Committee and Northfield Historical
Society
Softback, 128 pages. Copyright 2004.
Northfield is a vibrant South Jersey community with farm, seaport,
and shipbuilding beginnings. First settled in the late 1700s,
it is a place of beautiful homes built by ship captains during
the 1700s and 1800s. Northfield portrays the history of the
community with stunning photographs and a wealth of fascinating
detail. The Northfield Historical Society and Northfield Cultural
Committee selected some two hundred views of people, places,
and events to document various aspects of the city.
A Submariner’s Story
Author: Charles B. Fiedler
Softback, 226 pages. Copyright 2003.
The Submarine Service comprised only 2 percent of the Navy during
WWII…..yet the Submarine Service accounted for over 50
percent of the total enemy vessel tonnage sunk. This book is
in memory of those 52 submarines and their crews lost during
the WWII conflict. Through personal diary accounts by local
resident Charles B. Fiedler, this book is one sailor’s
recollections of his naval experiences. Copies of this book
were generously donated to the Atlantic Heritage Center by the
author’s son, Martin Fiedler.
