Battles
of Trenton and Princeton
The
Rev. Norman Goss will give an informative presentation on
the Battles of Trenton and Princeton and the role that Atlantic
County played in those battles. The patriot-soldiers from
what is now known as Atlantic County comprised the 3rd Battalion
of the Gloucester Militia under Col. Richard Somers in the
Revolutionary War. While it is widely believed that
their only accomplishment was the Battle at Chestnut Neck,
such is not the case by a long shot. We will hear the story
of Somer's soldiers actions in these famous encounters in
the very words of our local ancestors. We'll also
hear a strange story of a mystery woman who inadvertently
helped them help General Washington win the day. |
